I Want to be Crabby We've all been there...wanting to be crabby. We become heat seeking missiles, ready to explode all over kids, co-workers, spouses, friends and telemarketers. Just get in our way, please, so that we can release our pent up irritation! At four years old I was woken early from a nap and declared that I wanted to be crabby for a while. As an adult, the truth of that statement remains, but I'm not nearly as honest. I want to be crabby because I am miserable. I am miserable because I am out of balance. I am out of balance because I have neglected to take care of myself. I neglected to take care of myself because life is crazy busy and I forgot. I want to be crabby. Well, actually, I want to be relaxed. Next time you want to be crabby follow this routine... 1. Remove yourself from all possible targets. This saves all the time you would otherwise spend feeling guilty and apologizing for being mean. 2. Breathe fully. As you slowly exhale, tightly squeeze and roll every muscle in your body until you are in a tense fetal position, all the while, growling out loud. 3. Invite every bit of your crabbiness to this party. Breathe and repeat until you have squeezed all the crabby out. Your muscles will become limp from exertion. Your mind will give you peace. 4. Put your attention on your breathing and the sweetness of being relaxed. 5. Drink some water. 6. Take a nap. Don't think you have time? Use all the time you saved in step one. 7. Hug your dog.
